Those of us who live around the Mt Usu volcano are reminded daily the gift this powerful force of nature provides.

The delicious and bountiful food that we get from the ocean (噴火湾) and the fields around are the direct results of the nutrient rich soil that comes from the volcano.

During the warm season, we can also enjoy Mt. Usu up close.  The Nishiyama trail is an easy 10-20 mins hike up to the craters that were formed during the last eruption in 2000.  Along the trail you see damaged roads, buildings and other reminders of the awesome power of nature.  Once at the top, the view of the open sky and the bay below is breathtaking.
